The Election Commission has finally released the dates for state assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh from Dec 1. Elections will be held in two phases in Gujarat while, the result for the two states will be declared together on December 8.
The most awaited declaration came amid the ongoing sorrows of the tragic Morbi bridge collapse in Morbi city of Gujarat.
As per the schedule, the gazette notice would be issued a day after tomorrow and the last date to file the nominations is November 14. While, the withdrawal of nominations can be done till November 17.
In the two phases of elections in Gujarat – 83 seats will go under the first phase while the other 93 in the second phase.
Denying the allegations of announcement got delayed, the Election Commission said the current tenure of the state assembly is ending on February 18, 2023. Many factors like weather were considered before the declaration of dates, said the Chief Of Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
Speaking on allegations of EVM tampering he said, “Actions and outcomes speak louder than words. At times, parties critical of the commission have got surprise results in elections. Some have questioned EVMs, but they are silent when they win elections through the same EVMs”.
