The phrase “one nation, one police uniform” was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. He was speaking in Faridabad, Haryana, at a summit of State Home Ministers on internal security matters.
Mr. Modi claimed that he was not forcing his opinions on the States, but that it was a concept worth considering. According to him, police uniforms ought to be subject to a brand recall similar to that for the nation’s red-and-black post boxes.
“We should consider one nation, one police uniform along the lines of one nation, one ration card, one nation, one mobility card, and one nation, one sign language. The availability of high-quality goods will help the police force. Belts, hats, and uniforms would all be produced in large quantities, he claimed.
A common police uniform would ensure a recognisable identity for the police, he continued, comparable to how post boxes could be recognised from a distance even by those who were not educated.
The majority of police forces wear khaki-colored uniforms, although others, like the police in Kolkata, Tamil Nadu, and Goa, wear white.
The Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), according to Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister of Nagaland Y. Patton, should be repealed in additional parts of Nagaland in the future. The State Police had implemented a specific security plan in all the de-notified regions, he continued, and the Center had lifted the AFSPA from 15 police station bounds in seven districts due to the ongoing improvement in the state’s law and order situation.
We have further prepared ourselves to assume complete responsibility for all the areas that have been removed from the AFSPA, and we have been able to keep the issue firmly under control, according to Mr. Patton. We are confident that as things continue to improve, the Central government will think about removing more areas from the AFSPA in the near future and putting all of these areas’ security and law-and-order under the full control of the State government.
