A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped inside a care in Hyderabad, when she was returning home after party. Ons out of five accused has been arrested. Three of them are minors.
Reportedly, the crime involving sons ans grandsons of politicians driving a red mercedes has prompted a wide protest. However, the police has denied that the Home Minister’s grandson was involved.
“Victim couldn’t reveal anything about culprits. She only revealed one name and special teams were immediately formed to arrest them. CCTV footage recovered. We’ve identified five culprits as per CCTV footage and as per the statement of the victim,” police official Joel Davis said.
In a security footage of the incident, the girl was seen standing with the suspected culprits outside a club where she was offered a lift by them. The boys had asked her to drop her home but she was assaulted by them inside a luxurious car instead and the boys took turns to rape her while others were guarding.
On Friday, the BJP workers were protesting outside a police station where the policemen were carrying them away.
Initially, based upon girl’s father’s complaint the police had registered a case of “outraging modesty” but when the girl gave details of the incident it was changed to a rape case.
“Her father approached us. According to whatever he told us we filed a case of outraging modesty and under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences). He was not sure what happened, the girl was not in a position to reveal anything,” Davis told media.
Meanwhile, Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao has urged Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali, Hyderabad Police Commissioner and DGP to take action immediately and to not “spare anyone involved irrespective of their statuses or affiliations”.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader K Kavitha expressed concerns over women’s safety, however she showed showed confidence in state police.
“In the sad and shameful incident where a minor was raped, we stand by the family. I am confident Telangana Police will get to the bottom of it. We have a track record of Zero Tolerance when it comes to Women’s safety,” she said in a tweet.
