Basavaraj Bommai, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, said on Saturday that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot be compared, praising the latter for taking strong action on border issues and issues affecting the nation’s unity and integrity, in contrast to the former.
To counter the latter’s insult against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, he also wanted to know whether senior Congress politician Siddaramaiah was a Dravidian or Aryan.
On Friday, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly questioned if RSS members were “original Indians,” “Dravidians,” or “Aryans,” sparking strong reactions from various ruling BJP figures.
Siddaramaiah had said at an event marking Nehru’s death anniversary here that Modi and Nehru cannot and should not be compared.
“Where are Nehru and Modi?” “It’s like comparing land with sky; there’s no comparison…he (Modi) has undone all of Nehru’s good accomplishments, including the Five-Year Plans,” he had stated.
In response to Siddaramaiah’s remarks, Bommai stated on Saturday that such a comparison could not be made, citing Modi’s strong steps on national security and unity as a contrast to Nehru’s.
“Clearly, he (Modi) cannot be compared to Nehru since, when China invaded India (in 1962), Nehru gave away border territories (to China) without taking adequate steps, whereas Narendra Modi held firm and saved our border areas (in recent border clashes),” he said.
“Also, he (Modi) has not made any concessions to Pakistan.” There are various examples of his work for India’s unity and integrity. “There can be no comparison since Modi made India powerful,” he told reporters here.
“I only want to ask, from where Siddaramaiah has originated, whether he is a Dravida or an Aryan,” the Chief Minister stated in response to a question about the Congress Legislature Party leader’s accusations against the RSS. Let him tell you about it first.
