Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet around 40 Uttar Pradesh BJP leaders over breakfast today. The meeting comes just a month before state assembly elections.
Earlier in the week, he met with party leaders of Madhya Pradesh. PM Modi is continuously being interacting with party leaders over breakfasts during this Winter Session of Parliament.
Today’s meeting comes days after PM Modi inaugurated first phase of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency. He stayed in Varanasi for two days, where he chaired a meeting with 12 Chief Minister of BJP ruled states to discuss over good governance practices.
In its major push before assembly elections, the ruling saffron party will also hold six ‘yatras’ which will cover all the 403 assembly seats in the state. The target to complete these yatras will be before the end of December.
The ruling BJP has also announced an alliance with the Nishad Party and Apna Dal (S) in UP.
Later in the day, the party will also hold a rally in the capital city Lucknow with Nishad Party. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also attend the event.
Five state are up for assembly elections early next year – Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur. While Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat will have their assembly elections later in the year.
In 2017 state assembly elections in UP, the BJP had won 312 out of 403 assembly seats. Samajwadi Party (SP) won 47, Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) won 19, while Congress only managed to win 7 seats.
