The Indian National Congress has rejected Mamata Banerjee’s proposal to form an alliance with the Trinamool Congress in Goa ahead of the state’s upcoming elections. Mamata Banerjee appealed to the Congress to join the Trinamool alliance at a public meeting in Goa on Monday. Within twenty-four hours, Congress announced its decision.
Tulio D’Souza, a spokesperson for the Goa Congress, revealed the party’s final decision. “Congress Goa is a well-established force,” D’Souza added. When it comes to Goa politics, Congress finds this suggestion absurd. I’m not sure if it will help anyone at all. The BJP will benefit from forming a coalition. The Congress has no intention of joining this alliance because the Trinamool has no influence in Goa.”
The Congress’ comments, on the other hand, are only relevant to the Goa Assembly elections in 2022. The question of whether Congress will ally with the TMC in the 2024 elections, still remains unanswered.
The Congress’s relationship with the Trinamool Congress has gotten increasingly strained in recent months. Congress, according to the Trinamool, is being shortsighted by not establishing an alliance with them.
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated in an official statement that the Congress was welcome to join the Trinamool-led alliance in Goa. “I don’t want to say anything negative about Congress,” she remarked. In Goa, we’ve forged a coalition with a few parties, including the Goa Forward Party and the MGP. If Congress want to join the alliance, it is more than welcome to do so. If you don’t want the anti-BJp vote to be defeated, please join us.”
