As there is a fear of new Omicron variant all around the world, Tamil Nadu government has issued new guidelines for the New Year celebrations. According to the guidelines, public gatherings are not allowed at beaches in the state on December 31 and January 1.
The guidelines have been issued as part of the preventative measures by the state governments against Covid-19. However, the state government has announced many relaxations as well.
Chief Minister MK Stalin has said, no classes will be held on rotational basis for classes 6 to 12 and higher education institutions but will be ‘normal’ from next month.
These announcements by the chief minister came after a review meeting on Covid-19 situation in the state was held on Monday.
As per the guidelines, all Covid-19 restrictions in the state have been extended till December 31. It means all restrictions on social, political and cultural meeting would continue.
“There will be no access to people to all the beaches on December 31, 2021, and January 1, 2022, as part of the measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19,” said an official release citing CM Stalin.
In the relaxations announced by the government, the swimming pools will be allowed to function. Addressing the shortcomings in students’ education, the state government has said that there will no classes on rotational basis from January 3, 2022 and the classes will be normal.
Amid the emergence of Omicron cases in the neighbouring states – Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, people should avoid crowding and follow all the Covid appropriate behaviour including social distancing, using face masks and vaccination, said the Chief Minister Stalin.
So far, 40 cases of Omicron variant have been reported in India. With Maharashtra and Rajasthan topping the list respectively
