It is an important day for India, as Punjab-based Harnaaz Sandhu has won the title of Miss Universe crown for India after 21 years. It was the 70th Miss Universe 2021, where the 21-year-old has won the title. The previous one was won by actress Lata Dutta in 2000.
In the contest, which was held in Eilat, Israel, Harnaaz Sandhu beat Paraguay and South Africa.
Previous Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico, Andrea Meza, crowned Harnaaz at the occasion. The Miss Universe occasion was live-streamed worldwide.
The first and the second runner-ups were Paraguay and South Africa respectively.
In the Top 3 round, each contestant had to answer a same question. This was the question which they were asked,
“What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today?”
The answer which Harnaaz gave, “Well, I think the biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique and that’s what makes you beautiful, stop comparing yourselves with others, and let’s talk about more important things that’s happening worldwide. I think this is what you need to understand. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own [life]. I believe in myself and that’s why I’m standing here today. Thank you.”
Before Harnaaz, India had won this title only two times, one was won by Sushmita Sen in 1994 and second was by Lara Dutta in 2000.
Harnaaz was crowned Miss Universe India 2021 in October. The 21-year-old beautiful girl is as of now pursuing her Masters degree in Public Administration.
Harnaaz Sandhu began her beauty pageant journey at the age of 17. She has already won Miss Diva 2021, Femina Miss India Punjab 2019 and she additionally came to the Top 12 at Femina Miss India 2019.
The 21-year-old Chandigarh-based model has even worked in Punjabi movies like Yaara Diyan Poo Baran and Bai Ji Kuttange.
