In just three hours of opening of government’s dedicated website, CoWin for registration nearly 80 lakh people have applied for vaccination. All between 18-44 will be vaccinated from May 1.
Those who are registering will get slots made avaialable by states and private vaccination centres said sources. The site faced some glitches as around 27 lakh hits were coming per minute on the website.
“More Appointment slots will soon be offered. If slots are not currently available, please check again after sometime. We request your patience and understanding,” sources from government said.
India will start its third phase of world’s largest vaccination drive on Saturday that will cover all adults aged between 18-44.
For registering you will have to visir https://www.cowin.gov.in/home and then click on the “register/sign-in” option.
Around 4 pm the portal faces many glitches and it started showing “CoWin portal is not working, please try later”. However, after some time the government’s app for contact tracing and dissemination of medical advisories to contain coronavirus, Aarogya Setu tweeted, “CoWin portal is working. There was a minor glitch at 4 PM that was fixed. 18 plus can register.”
After this fixation the site was working smoothly and appointments are being booked.
India started its vaccination drive on January 16 with vaccinating health workers and frontline workers and then in second phase it vaccinated all above 45. Now from May 1 the government is starting its third phase of vaccination.
So far, only two vaccines — Covidshield and Covaxin were being used in vaccination but recently government has given approval to Russia’s Sputnik V that will be available soon. There are many vaccines in line to approves once they are approved in the countries of their origin and by reliable health agencies.
