7 Dead, Several Injured In Stampede In Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore District

Seven people have lost their lives while many were injured in a stamepde in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. The incident happened at a public meeting called by Telugu Desam Party (TDP), said the police.

The situation became chaotic immediately after the TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu came to address the meeting.

As per the police information, people at the meeting started bumping against each other soon after the Mr Naidu came to address the gathering. Thousands of TDP workers and supporters were present at the meeting. As soon the situation became adverse several people jumped into a nearby canal to save themselves.

As a result, Mr Naidu cancelled the meeting and scheduled roadshow and rushed to the local hospital to see the kin of the affected families.

Taking note of the situation he declared a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh to the families of each victim.

The TDP president was holding the public meeting as part of a campaign – “Idemi Kharma Mana Rashtraniki (Why is our state facing this fate)” aiming at 2024 state Assembly elections.

Having motivated by his previous meetings against YSR Congress government led by YS Jogan Mohan Reddy, the TDP supremo had planned out a complete programme consisting of a series of meetings across the state to highlight the failures of YSRCP government.

On November 16, at a public meeting Mr Naidu had announced that 2024 assembly elections will be his last if Telugu Desam Party do not reelect him.
