Four people were killed in landslide in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district on Monday, said the state Police. Two women and 4-month-old baby were among the dead.
Reportedly there are four deaths so far and their bodies have also been recovered. However, the search operation is still going on to find if any other person is missing, said a senior police official named Navneet Singh Bhullaraid.
As the landslide blocked the New Tehri-Chamba motor road, the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) has deployed excavators to carry out the rescue operations.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are still likely to have heavy to very heavy rainfall between August 22 and 24, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing ‘orange a’lert.
It further warned of flash floods in parts of Mandi districts and Chamba. The weather is predicted to remain wet until August 26.
The weather department further said that this heavy rain may lead to flash floods, landslides, crop damages and increased water level in rivers.
In last couple of months, these hilly states have seen heavy damages due to continuous rainfall.
In view of alerts issued for heavy rainfall for next two days, all schools and anganwadi kendras in Chamba, Jaunpur, Bhilanagana and Narendra Nagar have been ordered to remain closed on Tuesday.
