4 Dead, Over 100 Injured After Cyclonic Storm Hit West Bengal On Sunday

Four people died and over 100 were injured after cyclonic storm hit West Bengal on Sunday afternoon. Heavy winds wreaked havoc surrounding district headquarters and several parts of neighbouring Mainaguri.

Rescue operation is underway and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left to take stock of the situation.

“Sad to know that sudden heavy rainfall and stormy winds brought disasters this afternoon in some Jalpaiguri-Mainaguri areas, with loss of human lives, injuries, house damages, uprooting of trees and electricity poles. District and block administration, police, DMG and QRT teams swung into disaster management operations and provide relief,” said Ms Banerjee taking to her X handle.

The Chief Minister also said that compensation will be provided to the kin of those who lost their lives and those who were injured.

As part of the rescue operation all those affected in the natural calamity are being shifted to safer places

“Around 166 patients came to the hospital with injuries and 36 of them have been admitted here and 3 people were brought dead. The total death toll is 4,” BJP MP Jayanta Kumar Roy said.

In the mean time, Governor of West Bengal CV Ananda Bose set up an emergency seal to deal with the situation of cyclone.
