18 Patients Dead In Last 24 Hours In Civic Hospitall in Thane, CM Shinde Orders Investigation

At least 18 patients have lost their lives in last 24 hours at a civic-run Hospital in Maharashtra’s Thane.

The dead included ten women and eight men. Some were from Thane itself and some from Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Govandi, Sahapur and Ulhansnagar areas.
Out of the total decreased at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, twelve were of age above 50.

Taking cognizance of the situation, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had ordered formation of an investigation committee that will investigate the clinical aspects related to these deaths, said Civic Commissioner Abhijit Bangar.

The committee will be headed by the Commissioner of Health Services.

The patients who died were struggling with medical conditions like chronic paralysis, pneumonia, kidney stones, ulcers and kerosene poisoning.

“The line of treatment will be probed and statements of kin of the deceased etc will be recorded. Allegations of negligence levelled by some kin is a serious matter, which the probe committee will look into,” Abhijit Bangar told media.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Thane has send a team of officials to the hospital to look into the situation and do an in-depth review of records.
