The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced elections for 56 Rajya Sabha seats in 15 States, the polls for which will be held on February 27.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has finally announced elections in 15 states and have been scheduled to take place on February 27. Candidates will fight on total 56 Rajya Sabha seats next month.
The top election body conveyed the election schedule via a Press Note with title “Biennial Elections to the Council of States to fill the seats of members retiring in April 2024”.
The tenures of the 56 incumbents of the Council of States elected from these 15 states is due to expire by this April 2024 on their retirement.
The highest retirements i.e. 10, will be from the state of Uttar Pradesh and the terms will be ending on April 2,2024, the press note read.
While, both Bihar and Maharashtra will have 6 retirements and 5 each from West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh also on April 2, 2024.
In Gujarat and Karnataka there will be 4 retirements each on April 2, 2024.
As per the press note, number of retirements in Telangana, Odisha, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh will be 3 each. However, the retirements in Rajasthan and Odisha will be on April 3, 2024.
Meanwhile, there will be only retirement each in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh.
