15-18 Years-Old To Get Their First Dose As Vaccination For Teens Begins Today

Vaccination for the teens between the age of 15 and 18 years opens today as the Covid cases are on surge with new variant omicron. More than 8 lakh teens have registered themselves on CoWin as the registration was started from January 1.

The vaccination, which is being carried out the hospitals and health care centres is after the consultation with the schools.

A good number of schools and colleges are being used as the vaccination centres for this new drive.
Teens who are born in 2007 and before are now eligible for the vaccination.

The Union Health Ministry has said that the teens will only be administered with Covaxin jab and the states and UTs will be supplied with additional vaccine doses.

The announcement of the vaccination for teens between 15 and 18 years old was made on December 25 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his televised address.

However, the administration of the booster dose for health care workers, frontline workers and the vulnerable senior citizens will start from January 10.

The vaccination is being ramp up as the new variant omicron is raising fear among the people as this highly transmissible variant is replacing Delta as the dominant variant.

Several teens and children started getting contracted with the virus, as the schools and colleges have opened in recent times.

Meanwhile, the government is still to make a decision for when to allow booster dose for all.
