128 Dead, Over 140 Injured As Earthquake Of Magnitude 6.4 Hits Nepal Late On Friday

At least 128 people lost their lives and more than 140 have been injured in remote area of Nepal after an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 hit the country late on Friday. The death toll us expected to rise further
Locals were seen coming out of the rubble in night and looking for survivors between the collapsed buildings and homes.

Survivors making way out of the rubble of collapsed buildings with wail of emergency sirens in place was the seen in Nepal. The tremors were even felt in New Delhi, over 500 kilometers away.

36 people were confirmed dead in Rukum West while 34 in Jajarkot.

“At least 36 people have been confirmed dead in Rukum West, and the toll is expected to rise further This is the update we have been able to get till 5 am (local time),” said the Chief District Officer of Rukum West, Hari Prasad Pant.

After taking stock of the situation, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed his grief over the deaths and infrastructural damage caused by the severe earthquake.

“Honorable Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has expressed his deep sorrow over the human and material damage caused by the earthquake at Ramidanda in Jajarkot at 11:47 on Friday night and has mobilized all 3 security agencies for the immediate rescue and relief of the injured,” said the PMO Nepal taking to X handle.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief over the loss of lives and material loss in Nepal.

“Deeply saddened by loss of lives and damage due to the earthquake in Nepal. India stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal and is ready to extend all possible assistance. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and we wish the injured a quick recovery,” said PM Modi through his X handle.
