10 Died, Over 20 Injured After Train Compartment Catches Fire In Tamil Nadu

At least 10 people lost their lives while over 20 were injured in a stationary train after one of its compartment caught fire early this morning at Madurai railway station in Tamil Nadu.

The passengers who died had come from Lucknow. The fire was led by an “illegal gas cylinder” on board, said the Southern Railway.

Soon after the incident took place, Madurai district collector MS Sangeetha hurried to the station to take stock of the situation. 10 people died while 20 injured were sent to nearby hospital for their treatment, she said.

Tems of fire, rescue, police and the railway staff all reached the destination to expedite the recovery.

The fire took place around 5:15 am today and the fire team reached the destination half an hour later and around 7:15 am the fire was brought in control, said the Southern Railway.
